Students who were 16 years old at the time of registration for learners in 2017 can collect their National Identity Cards from their respective schools.

The registration exercise targeting learners was conducted from May 29, 2017 to August 30 by the National Identification Registration Authority (NIRA).

Those who were below the age of 16 were assigned National Identification Numbers (NINs), which will be ready for pick up from their respective school, according to a notice from NIRA.

“NIRA therefore wishes to inform ALL head teachers, parents and pupils, that the National Identification Numbers (NINs) of learners who successfully registered have been sent to the various NIRA district Offices,” the notice published on Wednesday reads.

“All head teachers are therefore requested to contact the NIRA office within their respective districts and obtain the lists of the NINs for their schools as soon as possible. Parents may thereafter contact the respective school administrations to obtain their children’s NINs.”

For parents who may not be able to travel to the schools, the NINs can be obtained from the various NIRA district offices on presentation of a National ID.

Alternatively, they can obtain the NINs through the NIRA mobile platform by dialling *216# and following the prompts.

NIRA set a target of registering 10.8 million learners at their respective schools. According to the NIRA spokesperson, Gilbert Kadilo, 9.6 million have been registered.
