Music promoter Andrew Mukasa aka Bajjo will be charged with treason and use of social media to incite violence, Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, has said.

"He posted a video on his social media platform that was inciting violence. In the video, which he posted, he rallied people to remove President Yoweri Museveni, who is elected, before 2021 general elections," he said.

Speaking to journalists on Monday at Police's headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, Enanga said Bajjo will be charged with treason and inciting violence.

Enanga explained that the charge of treason has been preferred because Bajjo allegedly posted a video on his social media platform, mobilising people to join the grand plot to overthrow the Museveni's Government before the 2021 elections.

Bajjo's file, Enanga added, has been sent to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and he is currently detained at the Special Investigations Division (SID) in Kireka.

Bajjo was arrested on Saturday at Centenary Park in Kampala after addressing a press conference.

"It is unlawful to post videos that incite violence among the public," Enanga said, warning the public against sharing such videos via their social media platforms.

On Monday afternoon, Bajjo's lawyer, Erias Lukwago, the Kampala Lord Mayor, was camped at SID to check on his client.
