She Cranes have the potential to upstage the England Roses

Jun 05, 2019

Peace — now plying her trade at Australian outfit Sunshine Coast Lightning — will be in familiar settings when she returns to England,

Peace Proscovia had an exceptional World Cup four years ago but She Cranes manager Jocelyn Uchanda expects the netball superstar to be even better at this year's edition that starts July 12 to 21 July in Liverpool, England.

There is, however, one slight concern. Proscovia will have just one week of training with her She Cranes team-mates as the Australia-based shooter will head straight to England rather than return home for training camp.

"The Australian league breaks off on 23 June so it is best for her to just go to England because she will rest for two days then travel for two days," Uchanda told New Vision Sports.

"It would be very exhausting for her to come here first then travel to England." Proscovia and the She Cranes open their World Cup account against hosts England on July 12 and the 29-year-old says victory is realistic.

"As the captain, what I would say is that I believe that Uganda has the potential within," Peace told English media.

"We have the potential. We have everything within us that can help us actually even win that game. Yes, I admit that England is a very big team and a team that is to be feared. But, being given that opportunity to play against England in the Test series and in the previous games, we've gained confidence."

Peace — now plying her trade at Australian outfit Sunshine Coast Lightning — will be in familiar settings when she returns to England, having spent a distinguished four years at Loughborough Lightning in England's Vitality Netball Superleague.

Peace helped Loughborough progress to two Grand Finals and take a Fast5 victory while she was named Player of the Season, Player's Player of the Season and Golden Shooter at
the Vitality Netball Superleague awards in 2018.

Uchanda said that the She Cranes squad will watch a video of Proscovia's matches in Australia to get a better understanding of how their captain plays.

For Uchanda, however, has little doubt Proscovia will once again be one of the stars of the sport's premier showpiece.

"I expect her to be better at this World Cup because the league in Australia is the best in the World," Uchanda added.

Proscovia is fifth on the top-scorers list in the SunCorp Super Netball League, helping the Lightning to third place on the eight-team log.
