At least 1,000 Kamuli residents receive free treatment

The treatment was offered by medics from Kampala, Jinja, Iganga, and Kamuli under their umbrella body Uganda Medical Association (UMA).

About 1,000 residents of Kamuli district and neighbouring districts have received free treatment.
 
The medical camp that was organised by the National Drug Authority (NDA) at Kamuli General Hospital was part of activities to mark 25 years of NDA's service of regulating human and veterinary medicines.
 
The treatment was offered by medics from Kampala, Jinja, Iganga, and Kamuli under their umbrella body Uganda Medical Association (UMA).
 
The doctors provided free services to the people of Kamuli, including general medical services, eye treatment, dental service, HIV testing, as well as cervical cancer screening.
 
NDA officials also donated 100 clinical blankets to the hospital, delivery kits and dental equipment.

NDA's chairperson, Dr. Medard Bitekyerezo said one of NDA's key milestones has been the establishment of quality assurance mechanism to guard against the presence of substandard and counterfeit medicines for both human and veterinary in Uganda.
 
Bitekyerezo said they have already arrested people who were tampering with expiry dates in Kampala.
 
Speaking to the resident who had come for treatment at the facility, the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga appealed to health workers to work ethically and win public trust.
 
Dr. Brenda Kawala, the deputy secretary General UMA said they had assembled a team of surgeons, Gynaecologists, medical officers, Intern doctors dentists and ophthalmologists among others to treat the people during the camp.
 
Dr. Joel Mirembe, the president of Intern doctors appealed to the government to invest more in the health promotions by sensitizing the public on how to protect themselves and avoid getting diseases.
