Martyrs' Day traffic advisory: All roads lead to Namugongo but beware of traffic

No private vehicles, taxis, and motorcycles would be allowed beyond the police cut off points and no parking has been reserved for the general public at both the Catholic and Anglican shrines.

UGANDA MARTYRS' DAY

KAMPALA - Uganda Police Force has sent out caution to all road users to adhere to security guidelines ahead of the Martyrs' Day celebrations scheduled for tomorrow at Namugongo in Wakiso.

The shrines; Namugongo Basilica for the Catholic and the Church of Uganda, complex (Nakiyanja) are located about 17 kilometers from the city centre.

 
According to a traffic advisory released by the Uganda Police Force, traffic flow along Jinja - Kampala Highway will remain uninterrupted.
 
Police, however, stressed that as a way to regulate traffic flow, there will be cut off points on various routes leading to shrines.

VIPs to the Catholic Shrine with vehicles bearing red stickers will access Namugongo through Kyaliwajjala via Semambo Road Ssemambo and park at Namugongo Boarding Primary School.  The VIPs for celebrations at the Church of Uganda shrines (Nakiyanja) will park at the church farm.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police Traffic Commander, Musinga Norman has since warned that vehicles found parked along the routes will be towed away at the owners' costs.

 
Those who contravene with the traffic rules and regulations will be dealt with in accordance with the Traffic and road safety Act 1998.
 
Fuel tankers are prohibited anywhere near the gazette cut off points. Kireka-Kyaliwajjala Road will be a one-way route for vehicles and later a one-way from the venue after celebrations.
 
Police advise leaders of the pilgrims to distribute telephone numbers of their contact persons or their drivers to enable Police officers to assist pilgrims who lose contact with their teams.
