KAMPALA- The National Resistance Movement (NRM) electoral commission on Tuesday passed its road map for the election of a new flag bearer in Nebbi district.

This follows the death of the district Chairperson William Ezrom Alenyo who passed away after being involved in a car accident last year in September.

The Chairperson of the NRM electoral commission Dr. Tanga Odoi said those interested in being the party flag bearer have up to Wednesday to hand in their applications at the head office.

He said on Thursday and Friday this week, they will be nominating those candidates who are legible to represent the party.

"From June 1, 2019 to June 8, 2019 they will be updating their register to produce a clean voter's register," he said.

He added that they expect to hold joint campaigns for their candidates in Nebbi on June, 8 and the NRM primaries will take place on Monday, June, 10, 2019.

After the primaries, we shall push our candidate for nominations to compete against other aspirants interested in the LC5 seat.

Odoi warned all aspiring candidates to refrain from engaging in any form of campaigns until the gazetted time.

He also asked overzealous local administrators and other NRM leaders to refrain from involving themselves in the electoral process.

He added that instead of them helping as watchdogs, they want to decide on who should be the candidate.

"We have district election officers and they are in charge of the entire election process, so we warn anyone against involving themselves in the process," he said.

"Any administrator willing to be part of the process should seek permission from us because we want streamlined activities," he added.

Lining up behind a preferred candidate

Odoi said although the resolution of lining up behind a preferred candidate was passed by CEC, he added that there was still a long process to pass it.

He said they were going to use the old method of using ballot papers since it's what the constitution stipulates.

"Lining up behind a preferred candidate is still a row data and we are still looking at its challenges and how best to implement it," he said
