Museveni takes anti-poverty drive to Tooro

The Tooro meetings mark the start of a nationwide drive by the President to enlighten leaders and citizens on the fight against household poverty

President Yoweri Museveni has taken the battle against poverty to the western sub-region of Tooro, mobilising the youth and women to embrace government programmes in the fight against poverty.

The President on Friday addressed rallies in Kyenjojo.

This was after he had addressed similar rallies in Fort Portal on Thursday. In Fort Portal, he met over 1,000 leaders from Tooro region at Kalya Courts Hotel in Fort Portal town.

He said it was dangerous that 68% of the population was still engaged in subsistence agriculture and were not part of the money economy.

In Fort Portal, the leaders derived from both political and technical wings of government were from the districts of Kabarole, Kyenjojo, Kyegegwa, Kamwenge, and Bunyangabu.
