A PARTNER FOR SUSTAINABLE URBAN DEVELOPMENT

Demonstration of briquette production at Kabalagala Youth Center

Kampala was selected among the pilot cities of the CoM SSA initiative, which has seen KCCA implement some signifi cant actions from the Kampala Climate Change Action Plan over the past three years in the context of the Kampala Climate Change Project.

Built on five components, the Project has sought to: build urban governance systems for monitoring and reporting climate and air quality data, develop and pilot models for climate smart neighborhoods, promote the transition to the green circular economy, raise awareness and drive action on energy and climate issues, and foster peerto- peer exchanges among urban authorities on climate action planning and sustainable urban development.

With this support received from the EU, KCCA is building an air quality monitoring system for the City. As a first step, monitoring tools have been deployed in 25 sites across the 5 divisions.
