Museveni to grace international infrastructure conference in Kampala

One of the anchor speakers will be Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba, an international consultant on economic transformation.

KAMPALA - President Museveni is expected to grace the 26th FIDIC-GAMA 2019 International Infrastructure Conference in Kampala.

The three-day conference has been organized by the Uganda Association of Consulting Engineers (UACE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Works and Transport.

Themed "The role of consulting engineers in driving growth in African economies", the meet will be held at the Kampala Serena Hotel from May 14 until May 16.

It will be the the third time in 15 years that Uganda is hosting the event, whose last edition was held in Bamako, Mali last year. Botswana will host the 2020 edition.

Eng. Joseph Nsimbe said over 250 participants are expected from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, South Sudan, DR Congo, Zambia, Sudan, South Africa, Botswana and Mozambique.

Others will come from Nigeria, Togo, Mali, Ghana, Cape Verde, Tunisia, Korea, Italy and the UK.

One of the anchor speakers will be Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba, an international consultant on economic transformation as well as a wealth creation expert on the continent. The other will be Kenyan Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba, a lawyer who has previously served as the director of Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission.

"There will also be short presentations by over 18 speakers from different countries," Nsimbe said.

"Our aim is to bring together consulting engineers and other related infrastructure professionals, contractors, project developers and industry leaders to share knowledge and experiences for development of society," he added.

Consulting engineers, contractors, MDAs, construction equipment and materials suppliers, funding agencies, private sector investors, legal practitioners and insurers are expected to attend the upcoming meeting.

 "Those who will attend will get enhanced knowledge of the interface between infrastructure and economic development and also get an opportunity to start and develop strong and viable business partnerships for EPC-Turnkey Projects," revealed Nsimbe.

In 1993, UACE was recognised by Government as the representative of the global International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) in Uganda.

Group of Africa Member Associations (GAMA), the FIDIC Africa Chapter, organises annual international conference events on rotational basis from one African country to the other.
