KAMPALA - Police say that a Nsambya Hospital laboratory technologist who apparently went missing a couple of days ago was not kidnapped.

In a tweet Thursday morning, Police said Maria Nabayunga returned home on Wednesday and that "she is safe".

"She had her own problems, which problems the family and Police are handling," read the tweet.

Police thanked "everyone who contributed in one way or another during the search for her".

Typically, a medical laboratory technologist performs tests that help other healthcare professionals, such as physicians, detect, diagnose, and treat diseases.

Uganda has been coming to terms with the death of International Hospital Kampala (IHK) medical doctor Catherine Agaba, who went missing earlier this month and was on Monday found dumped in a septic tank in Muyenga.

Agaba was reported missing on April 13, and a case filed with the Police by her boyfriend.

A security guard, whose arrest led to the discovery of Agaba's body, according to Police, has since been charged with murder.

As the country reeling from the medical doctor's shocking murder, news spread that another medic, Nabayunga, had gone missing.

The information that circulated had a picture of her, her name, occupation and address, plus an appeal for any information on her whereabouts.

Apparently, she had yet-to-be-established "problems", according to Police. But most importantly, she is safe.
