KIBAALE- Several people have been injured after being involved in a road accident along the Kibaale-Paacwa road in Kibaale district.

The Kibaale district police commander, David Otabong told the New Vision that the accident occurred when a truck, registration number UAY 826B  carrying players and fans of  Kyebando sub-county football club overturned at Kisojo trading centre in Kibaale district injuring over 30  players and fans.

He said the accident took place at around 11 am on Saturday when the players and fans were heading to Bujuni playgrounds in Karuguuza, Kibaale district to take part in the Kyalimpa cup organised by Paul Kyalimpa who contested for Buyanja County seat in 2016.

Otabong said no death has been registered, asserting that the causalities have been rushed to different health centers and hospitals including Kagadi general hospital, St. Ambrose charity health centre and Kibaale health centre IV.

He attributes the accident to speeding and overloading.

Otabong adds that the driver of the vehicle took off and his whereabouts are still unknown.

John Tibetera, an eyewitness said the truck was speeding and overloaded with occupants who were singing on top of their voices.

"The vehicle was not balanced at all because people were singing on top of their voices and unstable in the vehicle," he said.

Some of the seriously injured persons have been identified as Eric Basemererwa, John Kasangaki, Jackson Byamukama, Ronald Kirungi, Gerald Mwesigwa, Rosemary Nakibuuka and one only identified as Abigaba, son to Matia.

Otabong warned drivers against excitement by such events because the outcome is always bad.

"As a driver, you need to be sober and calm when transporting people and avoid excitement from the fans because in most cases accidents occur because of excitement," said Otabong.
