"We have been unlucky. We got many chances at goal. It will take time for my players to learn our philosophy but we are determined to give our fans the best football with results. Our focus is now on the next match," Obua said.

 

Obua's side went down 1-0 to defending champions Buganda at Bishop SS, Mukono.

 

Last season's MVP Viane Sekajugo was the difference after his sixth minute strike past Lango skipper and goalkeeper Franco Oringa.

 

Buganda coach Alex Isabirye praised his side for the victory 

 

"We missed some players who are injured but we worked as a team to have the win today. We have experience in the tournament. This win is a motivation for us," noted Isabirye.

 

Buganda Kingdom prince Chrispine Suuna Kiweewa and princess Katrina Sangalyambogo are some of the guests that attended the opening game.                            

 

The competition that is played between 16 provinces of Uganda is aimed at taking the game to the masses and its theme is, ‘Celebrating Our Ancestry'.

 

Elsewhere, Umar Mihinzi Mbusa scored the only goal as Rwenzori defeated Kampala 1-0 away at Luzira, while Busoga drew 1-1 with Tooro.

 

At Pece Stadium in Gulu, Tito Okello and Norman Ojik each had goal as Acholi beat Karamoja 2-0 while Sebei went down 3-2 to Ankole at Kyamate in Ntungamo district. In Paidha, West Nile lost 2-1 to Bunyoro while Bukedi beat Teso 3-1.
