The National Women Sevens team is a certified underdog at the World Seven’s Series qualifiers in Hong Kong, but they still have designs of pulling off one or two upsets.

“This tournament is about gauging ourselves as a team and picking up valuable experience which we will take forward to help us improve. We will take each game as it comes and if we play according to plan, we are capable of pulling off one or two upsets,” Lady Cranes Coach Helen Buteme said.

The Lady Rugby Cranes have not had the same preparations or even resources as other teams and are the least experienced team in this tournament, so expecting to win it would be unrealistic.

That though has not stopped Buteme and the team from preparing as best as the can for any eventuality. If they can win one or two games during the two day competition then they will be spared the honour of finishing last.

“This is completely new territory and without playing in tournaments of similar calibre prior to this week we have no idea where we stand,” she admitted

Men’s captain Michael Wokorach has assured the New Vision the boys are ready for the challenge on hand.

“We have a goal as a team and our goal is to qualify for the HSBC series so we are going to work hard in Hong Kong. We have been training for the last two months we are set we have done a lot of conditioning and a lot of game structure. I will say we are good to go.”
