LUWERO - Six people have been killed and eight others critically injured in a nasty accident that took place at Lukomera trading centre along the Kampala-Gulu highway, Friday night.

The savannah police regional spokesperson, Paul Kangavve said the driver of the Kampala bound commuter minibus in which the deceased were travelling, was trying to overtake another vehicle when the commuter bus rammed into an approaching FUSO truck.

The scene of the accident is one of the deadliest black spots on the highway.

By press time, identities of the deceased had not yet been established. The bodies were taken to Kasana health center IV.

However, the injured victims were identified as Brian Hellesa, a student of Everest College S.S in Luweero town, Tony Kalyango, Judith Akello, Eric Sempijja, Sharon Nanyonjo and Akram Bulega.

Kangavve blamed the accident on reckless driving by the taxi driver, saying that he was trying to overtake at a dangerous corner.

Both vehicles, especially the taxi were badly damaged following the collision.

During a recent meeting with UNRA officials, the leaders of Luweero, Nakasongola and Nakaseke Districts cited narrowness and the slippery nature of the Kampala - Gulu highway, proposing the erection of humps along the road to check over speeding.
