THANKSGIVING

ARUA - The Police have beefed up security in Arua municipality ahead of MP Kassiano Wadri's thanksgiving ceremony slated for Sunday at Arua hill Boma grounds tomorrow.

Arua district police commander Henry Kintu said officers belonging to the mobile police patrol unit have been deployed to safeguard people during Wadri's victory party.

The remarks were meant to refute claims that the deployment is aimed at interrupting the thanksgiving ceremony. He however stressed that any form of demonstrations and parallel functions will not be allowed.

Nezma Ocokoru one of MP Kassiano Wadri's task force members assured the public that the celebration will be peaceful.

"Even if they (members of the Public) see security operatives they should not be scared but join us in the celebrations. It's a day for enjoyment with no clandestine motives" she said.

The Arua municipality bi-election conducted in August 2018 which eventually saw Wadri win the elections was marred by chaos which led to arrest of several people.

Wadri replaced the Late Col. Ibrahim Abiriga who was shot dead by un-known assailants in Kawanda in June 2018.
