Police in Kyenjojo district have launched investigations into the murder of five children of the same family.

The deceased have been identified as Barbra Atuhairwe 7, Oscar Aliganyira 4, Linet Ainebyona, 3, Davis Twinomugisha 2 and a baby of two months only identified as Abwooli.

Lydia Tumushabe, the Rwenzori regional Police Spokesperson, said the incident happened on Wednesday night at the home of Joseph Tumwebaze in Kahompo village, Kyenjojo District.

Tumushabe said that the incident happened when unknown people broke the door glasses and accessed the house. Then locked Gerald Akampulira, a relative into his room and they entered Tumwebaze's room where they found his wife and asked for the whereabouts of her husband and money. Tumwebaze had gone to sell his cassava in Kasese district.

"They cut and killed the children, beat up the wife and dumped her in Kawompo River from where she was rescued and currently undergoing treatment at Kyenjojo general hospital," Tumushabe said.

She said that the Police head of crime investigations from Rwenzori west have pitched camp in Kyenjojo to investigate the murder.

"It's very unfortunate that the lives of five children have been lost but our team has already arrived in Kyenjojo to carry out investigations," Tumushabe added.

She said they do not know the motive behind the murder and no suspect has been arrested in connection with the grisly crime.
