The Uganda U12 national tennis teams have qualified for the Africa Junior Championship.

The girls' team beat hosts Kenya 2-1 in the final of ITF/CAT 12&Under championship on Sunday, while the boys' team finished runners up after they were defeated 2-1 by Kenya to make it to the Junior Championship that will be held in Morocco in September.

"In Kenya, both the girls and boys teams put up great performances. The training and different competitions we had also helped them to get the exposure to compete well," stated coach Edward Odocken

The event funded by NCS saw Ezeza Muwanguzi, Margie Namaganda, Awino Faula, Junior Nyata, Troy Zziwa and Allan Otto excel under the guidance of coaches John Oduke and Odocken.

ITF/CAT 12&Under Championship was organised in line with the junior tennis initiative (JTI) that was recently introduced in the country by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in partnership with Uganda Tennis Association (UTA)

The initiative is aimed at providing tennis players with a competitive platform to improve on their skills and prepare them to compete in international events. The programme also comes with a donation of equipment such as rackets, nets, and balls among others from the world tennis body.
