Kyetume football club became the second team to progress to the semi-finals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup after Bright Stars. The Mukono side eliminated fellow FUFA Big League side Wakiso Giants 4-1 in penalties after goalless draw.
Kyetume who are under the guidance of Uganda Cranes legend Jackson Mayanja and Big League 'specialist' Allan Kabonge as coaches are also in top gear for the club to be promoted to the top-tier.
Bright Stars beat Nebbi Central on Saturday to be the first team to make it to the semifinals. The battle for silverware in this year's Uganda Cup followed Stanbic Bank‘s sh120m sponsorship.
This is an increase of sh30m where all the top 16 teams in the competition will walk away with cash prizes compared to last season were they only the best eight were rewarded.
Buganda Region will host this year's finals at a venue yet to be communicated.
The winner of the competition represents the country in the Confederation Cup. Cup holders KCCA did not go past round 32 after losing 3-1 in penalties against Tooro United after a 1-1 draw.
