The national Kabaddi team has started preparations for the Africa Cup that takes place on April 25-28 in Nairobi, Kenya.

The men and women's teams are training at Lugogo for the event that doubles as a qualifier to the 2019 Kabaddi World Cup slated for October in Dubai.

The preparations come barely a month after the National Council of Sports (NCS) certified Kabaddi Federation of Uganda to introduce the Indian based sport in the country.

And for that case, team manager Amina Buyinza is determined to go an extra mile to make sure Uganda showcases talent by qualifying for the World Cup.

"We don't have the best training facility but the players have given us the morale and are very determined to learn new skills," Buyinza stated.

But she is also convinced that Uganda stands a chance to qualify for the world event.

"Besides Kenya, the rest of the countries in Africa including us (Uganda) are just learning the game and I know if we train very well, we can at least finish second best," she said.

Uganda is expected to compete against teams from Malawi, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and host Kenya next month.
