Nkumba University will this afternoon host YMCA Comprehensive Institute in the opening encounter of Group A in the Pepsi University Football League.

Nkumba who finished at the bottom of their group last season had to get past Kabale University in the preliminary rounds to seal a berth in Group A.

However, Coach Patrick Sebuliba believes that while it was not desirable to go through preliminaries, it has helped the team prepare for the season.

"Of course no team would want to go through preliminaries since there is a chance one can be knocked out but it has also helped us to prepare for the season. We are going to build on our performance against Kabale and I am confident of a win against YMCA especially since we shall be at home," he said.

For YMCA coach Allan Katwe, it's a case of a student taking on the teacher as he gets to take on a team that he played for and a coach that he played under between 2014 and 2016.

"It's going to be exciting to face my mentor Mr. Sebuliba under whom I have learned a lot. He has been a good teacher and I am grateful for that," he said.

Meanwhile, SLAU were held to a 1 all draw by UMU at home in their first game of the 2019 Pepsi UFL campaign.

Mbigo Livingstone's equalizer for UMU in the 80th minute canceled out Ogwang Isaac's 65th-minute opener for the hosts.
