MBARARA- Traffic in Mbarara town on Tuesday afternoon was brought to a standstill after town dwellers ranging from boda riders, taxi drivers and business people  were struggling to have a glance at the Ugandan manufactured Kiira EVS which was brought to town on a road test.

The car arrived  in Mbarara town at around 2:00pm and drove around Mbarara streets, starting from Buremba road, High street then  to Mbarara Municipal council offices and was later taken to Mbarara University of Science and Technology(MUST) where students were treated to a free feel.

“This a more comfortable car I got a chance to be driven around and I have liked it if the government can support these students who were behind this, then we can be able to boast science and technology in this country,” said Kanamugira.

Kiya Philomena a student at MUST said she could not believe that a Ugandan can make a car. “When I  saw Bebe Cool and Andrew Mwenda on a test drive in Kampala I did not know that I would also get a chance to feel it but at least  I have seen it its good.”

Allan Muhumuza the business development manager at Kiira Motors Corporation said this is the longest road test that had been made on KIIRA EVS and was aiming at showcasing and validating it. He said it is to tour western Uganda and from Mbarara they will be heading to Kabale then Kisoro.

He said wherever they have passed for example Masaka the car has been receiving mass reception and that they were proud to see a car made in Uganda.

“we are looking at over 1600kms to test this car and we are grateful to the government of Uganda which is the majority shareholder in Kiira Motors corporation since it has already committed its self to support the start up phase for the commercialisation of Kiira EVS project until the vehicle plant has been established on  100 acres and some funds have been appropriated for four years.

He said they have already started mass construction of the project in Jinja to ease production of more vehicles. He added that they have made three cars one was  Kiira EVE Uganda’s first electric car, Kayora Solar bus solar electric power bus and now the Kiira EVS which has a 2 litres engine and 4 stroke
