SSEMBABULE - The police in Sembabule are holding three men in connection with the murder of 70-year-old woman.

Mariam Kabaigereka, a resident of Nseese village in Mijwala sub-county was attacked on Monday at around 12:30am.

According to her ten-year-old grandson (names withheld), two men armed with a knife and panga, broke into the house and hacked the old woman.

They cut her neck and stabbed her several times in the chest, back and stomach as the little boy watched helplessly. The boy says he remained silent to spare his life.

After the brutal murder, the killers stuck a stick in her left ear before they disappeared on a motorcycle to unknown destination.

However, the boy informed the neighbours who found Kabaigereka's body in a pool of blood. They called the local council authorities to scene of crime.

Residents said that Kabaigereka had no wrangles with anyone on the village. They appealed to police to investigate and bring the killers to justice.

At least three people have been arrested to aid ongoing investigations. The suspects so far identified as Sam Ndyabarema,28, Wasswa,35, and another, are being held at Sembabule police station.
