Acholi region to host Tarehe Sita fete

ACHOLI - Celebrations to mark the 38th Tarehe Sita anniversary will be held in Acholi sub-region. The anniversary which will be held under the theme "UPDF and the people: Consolidating peace for sustainable development and prosperity," will commence with the Army week on 29th January 2019.

Terehe Sita is marked on 6th February every year to mark the National Resistance Army's first attack on Kabamba barracks.

According to a press statement signed by UPDF's spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire, during the army week, UPDF medical and engineering teams will conduct symbolic civil military activities in all the districts of Acholi sub-region namely Agago, Amuru, Gulu, Kitgum, Lamwo, Nwoya and Pader.

"The rest of the UPDF formations and units will carry out other tasks in support of the local communities in their areas of operation. The people living in the mentioned areas are encouraged to take full advantage of these services," he said.
 
The national launch of the celebrations will take place on Tuesday 29th January at the ministry of defence and veteran affairs at UPDF's headquarters in Mbuya, followed by a regional launch at Kitgum district headquarters on 30th January.

On Friday 1st, there will be district launches at the headquarters of Agago, Amuru, Gulu, Lamwo, Nwoya, Omoro and Pader districts.

The main celebrations will be held on Wednesday 6th February at Kitgum Core primary teachers college grounds.
