Over 200 golfers including the recently assembled national team players and youngsters below 12 years will compete in one of the biggest events on the golf calendar sponsored by Barclays Bank and Pinnacle Security.

Uganda Golf Club (UGC) competitions secretary Arthur Kiwanuka told a press conference during the launch of the tournament on Wednesday that the event is open to all golfers all over the country. He said, going by the number of participants in last year’s event, they were expecting another big field in the one-day, stable ford mode of play tournament.

At the press conference, Barclays Bank Head of Affluent Segments Henry Lugemwa and Head Customer Network and SME Portfolio Annette Kiconco unveiled an assortment of trophies and goodies that will be won in the different categories.

Lugemwa said they were proud to associate with the Uganda Golf Club and the Kitante Open because golf is part of the lifestyle of their prestige customers and pledged more support to the event and also hailed UGC for the partnership.

“We have a long term partnership with UGC and this relationship is ongoing and it involves different aspects of the club,” Kiconco explained.

UGC Captain Joseph Bagabo welcomed the sponsors of the signature event of the club retaliating that a big turnout was expected.

“We are delighted that we have a very big financial institution that has come out to sponsor the tournament. We expect a lot of fun and we hope to keep the tradition of having this as the signature event that opens the annual golf calendar in the country,” Bagabo stated.

“We have one the best and well-maintained golf courses in the country and we feel it is important for us to have an event that opens the calendar. You get a lot of consistency with your game when you play at Kitante and the competition is high,” Bagabo noted.

Last year, David Musisi and Soon Yoon were the first to register their names in the history books when they became the inaugural overall winners of the event.
