ICC High Performance Camp

14 Jan-20 Feb, Potchefstroom South Africa

It is a good day for Uganda's u19 Cricket Cranes duo of Zephania Arinaitwe and Frank Akankwasa who have been selected by world governing body ICC for a high performance camp in South Africa.

The resplendent pair have over the years proved rather immortal, and such a breakthrough can be seen as fair enough.

Scheduled for five weeks, the African camp is comprised of fourteen participants from seven countries that include Ugandan Sierra Leone, Ghana, Nigeria, Mozambique, Kenya and Botswana.

Uganda and Botswana will particularly be under the wings of  North West Dragons' Gordon Parsons.

Arinaitwe was quite incomparable last season, reaching a total of 7 centuries throughout the campaign.

Interestingly, the one he scored during Uganda's tour of South Africa (107 from 51 balls) rompted experts there to look at the 18-year-old with a different eye!

"It was quite memorable for me getting it under a lot of pain, for I had a stomach upset from the meat I eat," Arinaitwe said of the landmark performance.

Akankwasa on the other hand, is undoubtedly one of Uganda's most gifted youngsters. The rather laid back character has displayed over the years strong leadership abilities captaining the U19 side.

The two talented youngsters left Wednesday for the ICC fully funded camp which is widely seen as the beginning of something special for Uganda's cricketers.
