Two children from the same family died when their house in Namiganda village, Ibulanku sub-county in Bugweri district caught fire.

The deceased who were burned beyond recognition were later identified as 4 year old Waiswa Ssegirinya and his young brother Tenywa Lubowa, 2.

The incident happened at around 11:00pm when one of the children accidentally dropped a paraffin lamp onto his bed to start the fire.

According to Francis Ochayo the Namiganda village LC1 chairman, said the fire spread quickly to the rest of the house via a mosquito net that was spread over the bed.

Ochayo said the children's mother Scovia Babirye was critically injured when she rushed inside the house to rescue her children.

She said she was outside the house cooking when she suddenly heard cries coming from inside the house.

"I hurriedly wanted to pull them away but failed since the fire was too much" she said.

Babirye was admitted at Iganga Hospital with multiple burns on her head, hands and legs.

The Busoga East Police spokesman, James Mubi, said investigations were still underway to establish the exact cause of the fire outbreak.

Mubi cautioned parents against leaving their children unattended to so as to avoid similar incidents in the future.
