AMERICA'S GOT TALENT

Ugandan acapella group, The Harmonics Uganda, have been praised for bringing an "African touch" to America's Got Talent, a televised American talent show competition.

The group took part in the auditions in San Antonio, Texas last Friday.

They impressed the judges, but they have to wait for the panel's decision two weeks after auditioning.

The all-male six-member group, who sing gospel, started off eight years ago. Owen Mugumya and Benjamin Kasule are the lead vocalists while Elijah Katende sings bass. Patrick Othieno Patrick is the baritone guy.

Dan Kaliba Armstrong sings tenor while Mbaziira Patrick is the beatboxer.

Acappella involves singing without instrumental accompaniment, and the voice used to emulate instruments and create harmony.

They got to know about the 2019 season of the talent show while on a USA tour that began at the end of February last year. They intend to hold over 150 concerts in the US.

“We have always followed this show and we wanted to give it a try. We recorded a live video of us singing and submitted it in. Out of thousands of people, we were selected to be part of those who were fit for the auditions," said Mugumya, the group leader.

"Our African touch in our music gives a unique feel of music - that's one of the compliments they [judges] gave us," he added.

Their US tour has seen they through 18 states, including Georgia, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.

The group is happy to have represented Uganda internationally and more importantly Christianity through their music.
