Sserunkuma confident Vipers can deliver

It’s hard to know how far Vipers have come since their elimination from the CAF Champions League

CAF Confederation Cup: Vipers v CS Sfaxien (4pm)

Striker Dan Sserunkuma is talking up Vipers' chances ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup first leg playoff round game against Tunisian giants CS Sfaxien today at St Mary's stadium.

It's hard to know how far Vipers have come since their elimination from the CAF Champions League.

But Sserunkuma said Vipers is plotting a shock when the sides meet.

"Our job is to win the game at home. I believe we are ready and not intimidated at all," Sserunkuma stated.

"This is the time we have to give our best. We don't need to be under any pressure if we are to achieve our target."

Sserunkuma's confidence stems from the fact that Vipers bounced back to winning ways by beating Onduparaka 3-0 in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on Tuesday.

"The new coach has come up with a new style of play which I believe will help us succeed. Teams from Arabic speaking countries are good at time wasting, but we know how to deal with them," he added.

Apart from new signing Innocent Wafula who has not been cleared by CAF and goalkeeper Bashir Ssekagya who picked an injury against CS Constantine away in Algeria, the other players are available for selection.

CS Sfaxien, who arrived in the country on Thursday afternoon with a contingent of 39 people including 20 players, feel they are ready for the task.

"This is first time to be in Uganda. The weather is nice which is also a positive on our side," CS Sfaxien coach Ruud Krol noted.

"Vipers is a good team, so we should not underestimate them. We had a long trip from Tunis and I believe the players will be in better condition before the match.

"We have little knowledge about Vipers, but we are ready to face them."

Uganda's representatives KCCA were expected to have arrived in Congo Brazzaville yesterday ahead of their tie with AS Otôho.

KCCA have enjoyed relative continental success over the last two seasons and hope to build on that against their opponents in tomorrow's match.

Vipers probable XI: F. Mutombo, I. Kiyemba, Y. Lutimba, L. Mulondo, H. Lwaliwa, G. Wasswa, T. Lwanga, T. Okello, M. Waiswa, D. Sserunkuma, A. Ndugwa.
