Christians make the sign of cross because it’s a way of asking God to purify their thoughts and actions.

SIGN   CATHOLICS  PRYAER

The Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has expressed concern over Catholics who are ashamed of making a sign of the cross while they are in restaurants, hotels and other public places.

The prelate said a few Catholics make a sign of the cross in such places.

The prelate was speaking to Christians at Lubaga Cathedral.

Christians make the sign of cross because it’s a way of asking God to purify their thoughts and actions.

Lwanga explained that “when we touch the face, we ask the Lord to bless our minds; when we touch the chest, we ask Lord to bless our hearts; and when we touch the arm, we ask Lord to bless the work. We do so that we can effectively sustain ourselves,” narrated Lwanga.

He said Christians therefore need to make the sign of cross whenever necessary since they all need God’s blessing to effectively pursue their endeavors. He further noted that the sign of the cross has a great bearing on making righteous actions.

According to catholic records the sign of the cross often introduces and closes other prayers, but it is a prayer in itself and can also be prayed on its own.

Sometimes Catholics make the sign of the cross, with or without words, at other times as well.
