KAMPALA - Parts of Entebbe Road and other  roads in the city centre will be  temporarily closed for the official commissioning of the Kampala Fly Over project by the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA).

President Yoweri Museveni is expected to officially launch the project at 2:00pm, along the Kafumbe Mukasa Road, at Nakivubo Blue Primary School Grounds, in Kampala.

The multibillion project is expected to kick start in January 2019.

Addressing journalists at the Kampala Central Police Station (CPS), the Kampala Metropolitan Traffic boss, Norman Musinga said all roads leading to Kafunmbe Mukasa Road will be closed at about 6:00am.

He said traffic from the city centre will not be allowed to access Katwe Wansi (Kalitunsi) and Kafumbe Mukasa Road.

"We encourage the general public to adhere to the traffic guidelines. People and all motorists should use guidelines from the various traffic offices to avoid any inconvenience," he noted.

He said there will be normal traffic flow along Queen's Way from the city centre, but noted that all motorists from Entebbe heading to the city centre will be diverted at Zana round about, Stella-Namasuba junction and Kibuye round about.

Mengo hill Road will be closed to the general public with traffic being diverted to Kisenyi and Kibuye Round about.

Musinga noted that traffic will be diverted from Kafumbe Mukasa Road (Owino Market) to Kisenyi.

The project is aimed at reducing traffic congestion in the central business district and city suburbs by re-aligning traffic flow in and out of the city. It will funded by a loan from the Japanese government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The first phase is to expect to cost sh300b.
