ACCIDENT

The search for a Police Patrol driver who knocked down two women who were going to attend prayers at St. Mbaaga Catholic Church, in Najjera, a Kampala suburb  in Nakawa Division has intensified.

The victims who included; Rose Biga and Maureen Anyanzo, were rushed to Najjera Hospital in critical condition by a Good Samaritan who was driving behind the Police Patrol registration number UP4639, which caused the accident.

An eyewitness told New Vision, that on realising that he had knocked the pedestrians, the Police Patrol driver sped off   and abandoned the victims at the scene, as they wailed in pain.

"As the two women were approaching the church, the speeding Police Patrol came and knocked them. I saw one lady flying in the air and another one like that.

I was very shocked because after knocking them down, the Police driver instead drove off, so I parked aside and the people around helped me put the victims into my car I then rushed them to Najjera Hospital.

This was horrible; I still experience the nightmare of what happened. I could not believe our Police could do such a thing!" Judith Aguga lamented.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire told New Vision, that they have communicated to all their units to ensure that the suspect is arrested and charged accordingly.

"We have already embarked on the hunt for our own to have him arrested for knocking people and failing to help them. Our counter parts in traffic Police have also been informed and are following up on the matter" Owoyesigyire said

When they reached Najjera Hospital, medics discovered that Anyanzo required urgent attention since she sustained severe head injury, while her colleague Biga, had sustained injuries around her lower limb.

"Anyanzo's condition was deteriorating every minute which prompted us to refer her to Mulago Hospital so as to undergo a brain CT scan. However when her relatives came, they preferred to take her to Naguru Hospital for further management," Dr. Geoffrey Bbosa said.

He also added that, the second patient (Rose Biga) was complaining of pain in her lower limb. "We referred her to Nakasero Hospital for a more advanced scan because we suspected she could have had a dislocation somewhere," he narrated.

"The law requires us to refer patients to government hospitals but when a patient feels they can afford a private facility, he or she is free to use any medical facility of his/her choice," he added.

By press time, the two victims were undergoing treatment at Nakasero Hospital and Naguru, respectively as investigations into the mater continue.
