Cardinal Wamala celebrates 92nd birthday

Throughout the weekend, hundreds congratulated Wamala upon his birthday



Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala has celebrated 92 years in a low-key event where he cut cake and briefly interacted with his guests.

The ceremony was attended by about 20 people including Vice-President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi.

It was held yesterday at the priests' residence in Nsambya suburbs.

"I thank God I for my 92nd birthday .it's not easy but it was God's Grace." he remarked during an interaction with Ssekandi.

Clad in his white cassock and donning a red cap, Cardinal Wamala chitchatted with his guests for at least thirty minutes before he retired to his quarters.

Ssekandi who congratulated the Cardinal upon his 92nd birthday,  paid tribute to Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala for his dedicated service to the church and the country at large.

He noted that Cardinal Wamala has groomed many people in leadership and in many other aspects of life.

 "We thank God for his life and for having enabled him to fulfill his obligation as a clergy" Ssekandi said.

Other guests at the ceremony organised by Front Pages managing director Prince Edward Nakibinge included many priests and nuns plus Christians from Manyama sub-parish in Matale Catholic Parish in Masaka Diocese where Cardinal Wamala hails from. 

"Cardinal Wamala is part of us as Christians from Matale most especially from Manyama sub-parish, so it was incumbent of us to organise and celebrate his birthday party," said Nakibinge.

The day was crowned with cake and a sumptuous luncheon courtesy of Nakibinge.

Cardinal Wamala was born December 15, 1926 in Kamaggwa village in Lwankoni Sub-county near Kalisizo town presently Rakai district, in Kamaggwa Sub-Parish in Matale Parish.

He was ordained priest 61 years ago, he is one of the 10 children born to late Cosma Kyamera and Theresa Namayanja.

Throughout the weekend, hundreds using social media  congratulated  Emmanuel  Cardinal Wamala upon his birth day.
