Mbale MP admitted after accident

ACCIDENT

MBALE - The woman member of parliament for Mbale, Connie Galiwango, is admitted in critical condition at Iganga main hospital after being involved in an accident at Busei village, 3km along the Iganga to Bugiri highway.

The accident happened on Friday evening when the legislator's Land Cruiser registration number UAV 322G, collided with a motorcycle registration number UEQ 669F.

According to an eyewitness, Peter Balikoowa, the legislator lost control and knocked a boda boda cyclist identified as Jamada Wante, who was transporting cement and a wooden bed towards Nakalama trading center.

Balikoowa said the Galiwango lost control and rammed into the boda boda cyclist after earlier hitting a hump.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) administrative secretary for Iganga, Tony Nabaala, said efforts were underway to have the MP transferred to Mulago hospital in order to acquire better treatment.

According to the District Police Commander for Iganga, Nassibu Nditta saidi, investigations are still underway to establish the exact cause of the accident.

The officer in charge of traffic at the Iganga Central Police Station Rogers Nandenge urged motorists to always drive within the recommended speed limits especially during the festive season to avoid causing accidents.

Busei village has for long been a black spot for most accidents along the Iganga to Busia highway.


The wreckages of the two vehicles were towed to Iganga central Police Station.
