National Council of Sports Chairman Bosco Onyik has called on Uganda's riders to work as a team to be able to retain the FIM Central Africa Motocross Championship (FIM-CAC) title.
Onyik made the appeal while flagging off the forty-man squad that left for Nairobi Thursday for the second leg of the FIM-CAC on Saturday and Sunday.
"It is good we are leading with a good margin, but that can be overturned if we do not work as a team and stay disciplined," Onyik said.
"We as the government are committed to funding motocross because they always give us accountability by winning medals, and I urge you to win more in Kenya," the NCS boss added.
Team Uganda arrives in Kenya with a 1,211 point lead secured in April during the first leg in Busiika.
Team captain Maxime Van Pee said he is confident his team will retain the trophy.
"We have taken not only the biggest squad ever, but also the quality of the riders is high and we are expecting a number of podium finishes which will help us retain our trophy," Maxime said.
Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) secretary Joseph Mwangala lauded NCS for the continuous support and pledged that his team will return victorious.
The Uganda team includes Maxime Van pee and Arthur Blick Jr (MX1), Fatuh Kiggundu and Ismail Mukiibi (MX2), Aviv Orland, Ali Omar, Sharifah Kateete (MX125), Ntale Liam, Pascal Kasozi, Miguel Katende and Abigail Mwangala, (MX50cc).
The others are, Alon Orland, Milton Akaki, Milton Akena, Ashi Mbabazi jr., Daryl Muhindo, Emmanuel Lubega, Esther Mwangala, Markus Bukenya, Shamilah Kateete, and Jeremiah Mawanda (MX65cc).
Fortune Ssentamu, Stav Orland, Waleed Omar, Wazir Omar, Malcolm Lubega, Shadiya Kateete, Jonathan Muhindo, Habibu Kiggundu, Joshua Mwangala, Kylan Wekesa and Yuli Sobol (MX85cc) while Barak Orland, Rodrigo Oliviera and Ashraf Mbabazi are in veterans class.
