The European Union partners with the Uganda Meat Producers Cooperative Union in the development of the beef meat industry in Uganda

Nakasongola, Uganda, 23rd November 2018.

The European Union has awarded EUR 1.5 million to the Uganda Meat Producers Cooperative Union Ltd. (UMPCU) to implement the "Farmer Led Beef Industry Investment and Sustainability" project (FALBIIS). This e five-year project, is implemented by UMPCU farmers which also makes a contribution of EUR 300,000.

This was highlighted at the official launch of FALBIIS at Orchids House farm in Wabinyonyi sub county, Nakasongola district, on Friday 23rd November 2018.

FALBIIS will specifically focus on enhancing beef meat production, productivity and quality assurance. The main beneficiaries will be the small-holder beef producing members of the various cooperative societies which make up UMPCU. They will be supported to improve their production through climate smart technologies, which have been developed locally, take into account the needs of male and female producers, and offer the opportunity of improving rural livelihoods. This will be achieved alongside ensuring good animal welfare practices, as well as improved nutrition and security.
