The Electoral Commission has declared Geoffrey Wandera as the Busia LC5 chairman after his two rivals withdrew from the race.

Chripus Bwire and Tony Ojambo stepped down and the distrcit returning officer Umar Kiyimba, declared Geoffrey Wandera unoppossed.

According to the deputy spokesperson of the electoral body, the law mandates them to declare a candidate winner in case his or her opponents withdraw from the race.

The election to fill the post, which fell vacant in May this year after Court of Appeal threw out Adea Ouma on grounds that he had been convicted of corruption in 2013, had been scheduled to take place on November 28, 2018.

However, two leading contenders Hasubi Deogratious Njoki (opposition joint candidate) and Paul Oguttu (NRM), were thrown out over discrepancies in their names.

Wandera who has been a district speaker and councilor, holds a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in public administration.
