International Netball Friendly Series

England v Uganda (Nov 27 - Dec 2)

Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) has taken a wiser decision this time round to field junior players on the She Cranes ahead of the International Netball Friendly Series with England starting Tuesday.

The team that was flagged off yesterday by the State Minster for Sports Charles Bakkabulindi has got six junior and eight senior players.

Mary Nuba (20 years), Fauzia Nakibuule (20), Shaffi e Nalwanja (20), Florence Adunia (23), Betty Kizza (22) and Joan Nampungu (20) are the young faces on the team of 15.

But they are expected to add their experience of victory at the recent World University Netball Championship to help steer the She Cranes to victory as they take on England, the world's second ranked side.

This will also be the second international friendly series for the She Cranes this season since they emerged victorious over Barbados away in March this year.

"It is a good opportunity for these young players and I believe, whether we win or lose, they will have attained some exposure and experience," said coach Vincent Kiwanuka.

"The main target of the tour is to help prepare for the upcoming World Cup," he added.

Nakibuule, Nalwanja and Adunia will be making their first appearance on the She Cranes team ahead of the series starting on Tuesday at the Echo Arena in Liverpool.

But it will not be a completely new experience for Kizza, Nampungu and Nuba. The three were on the team that competed at the Commonwealth Games and Africa Championship early this year.

After the Liverpool encounter, the She Cranes will then travel by bus to London to play two other games against the Roses on November 30 and December 2 before they return the following day aboard Qater Airways.

She Cranes skipper Peace Proscovia currently with the Sunshine Coast Lightning in Australia is also expected to join the rest of the team at the weekend in England.

Lillian Ajio, Halima Nakachwa, Stella Oyella, Stella Nanfuka, Racheal Nanyonga, Ruth Meeme, Muhaimina Namuwaya and Desire Obua are part of the Ugandan contingent of 40 led by National Council of Sports secretary Patrick Ogwel.
