Amuria district top leadership is demanding government to establish a district hospital.

Patients in the district mainly rely on the Amuria Health center IV, which is usually overcrowded with patients from neighboring districts of Karamoja.

The leaders argue that it has become increasingly difficult for patients in the district to travel to Soroti regional referral hospital after being referred there because the district lacks a district hospital.

According to the district vice chairman, David Ewayu, there is need for government to construct a hospital in the district because most patients cannot afford to pay medical bills at the private clinics.

Ewayu said that the available health Centres IIIs in the district are poorly equipped and do not have ambulances that can be used for emergency cases.

The local leader is now urging government to upgrade Amuria Health Center IV to a district hospital and equip it.
