Nov 21, 2018

"The Cranes’ win was a manifestation of the strength of Uganda as a football power-house not only in East and Central Africa but on the entire African Continent," she said.

First Lady and education and sports minister has congratulated the Uganda Cranes upon their victory against Cape Verde and for qualifying for AFCON.

This was in the message sent on Wednesday.

Below is the message in full
This is to congratulate the Uganda Cranes who on Saturday 17th November 2018 qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Cameroon 2019 Finals in style after a 1 - 0 win over Cape Verde at Mandela National Stadium - Namboole.

Uganda has made history by not conceding a goal, this far in this Campaign, and securing qualification with a game to go and a comfortable 8 points cushion between ourselves and the next likely qualifying team from our Group as the Tables hereunder illustrate.

The Cranes' win was a manifestation of the strength of Uganda as a football power-house not only in East and Central Africa, but on the entire African Continent.

Uganda is proud of you and is looking forward to similar performance that is now characteristic of you in Cameroon 2019 at the AFCON.

I wish to pay special tribute to the Government of Uganda, Ministry of Education and Sports, National Council of Sports, FUFA Administration, the Technical Team, all the Gallant players and the Ugandan fans for a job well done. Government is proud to see the fruits of both increased funding and better organization/preparation of National Teams, most especially the Uganda Cranes.

On behalf of my Ministry, I pledge continued support to assist in the Team's preparation and representation at the final tournament in June/July 2019 in Cameroon and throughout the Team qualifiers to the coveted FIFA World Cup in the near future.

I do wish Uganda Cranes all the blessings and success in the 2019 AFCON Campaign in Cameroon.
