Nov 19, 2018

“When I was starting out, my dream was just to have a good home and good education for my children, I didn’t know I would reach this far,” Sudhir said.

Recognised by the world renowned Forbes Magazine in 2014 as one of the richest men in Africa worth a whooping US$1.1B, Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, Uganda's richest man has revealed that he never dreamt of being that wealthy.

"When I was starting out, my dream was just to have a good home and good education for my children, I didn't know I would reach this far," Sudhir said.

"And may be some of you can borrow a leaf from my journey. Have a strong foundation and build on it. No need to aim too high where you can't reach.  Aim where you can reach and when you get there, aim for the next level, then next level and eventually the sky is the limit," Sudhir told the audience.

The property mogul was speaking after receiving the East African Business Leader Award 2018, an award given by the East Africa Book of Records.

"It is my wish and desire that this award will be an inspiration to the young Turks such as Rajiv Ruparelia and his contemporaries to continue on this path and eventually, someone will recognise your contributions in developing this wonderful country," he said.

Sudhir who dedicated his award to President Museveni said had Museveni not created an enabling environment and formulated liberal economic policies that encourage entrepreneurs like himself to thrive, it would have been difficult for him to make it.

"I tell you, without that, even with all your business acumen, planning, hard work and dedication you will still struggle to achieve success," said the business magnate.

Former minister and businessman Capt. Mike Mukula recognised Sudhir Ruparelia for building institutions from a humble beginning and seeing these institutions grow to a level of perfection. "Dr. Sudhir is extremely very meticulous and very thorough," he said.
