Foreign runners from France and Botswana have confirmed their participation in this year's MTN Kampala Marathon on November 25 in Kololo.

MTN CMO Olivier Prenntout made the revelation at a press briefing in Namanve before Rwenzori Beverages committed sh150m towards this year's cause. Proceeds from this year's run will go towards improving maternal health in the country.

"This time, friends from Paris and Botswana are coming to participate in this fifteenth edition of the Kampala Marathon, but our target is to turn it into an international event," Olivier said.

MTN manager for corporate communications, Valery Oketcho also said starting next year they will be more inter-city regional marathons to make it broader and countrywide.

"We started with Gulu, went to Mbale and then Mbarara where we attracted more than 3000 participants. We shall next year add more cities to give all citizens an opportunity to participate," Oketcho said.

Coca-Cola Beverages Africa public affairs and communication director Simon Kaheru appealed to participants to protect the environment by not littering it with the plastics during the event.

"Proceeds from this year's run goes towards improving Maternal health in the country, but during this noble cause, we should protect the environment so that we pass it to the next generation while good as our grandfathers left it," Kaheru said.

Ivan Oboth the Coca-Cola Beverages Africa Uganda Sales Director lauded MTN for initiating such a community caring event and promised continued support.
