Museveni launches bursary scheme for 600 students

The launch which was among others witnessed by the the First Lady who is also the Minister of Education and Sports, Mrs Janet Museveni took place at Booma grounds in Hoima, Thursday

President Yoweri Museveni has launched a bursary scheme targeting 600 beneficiaries from the Albertine Region.

"The trainees," according to the official documents from the World Bank, "Will undergo skills training from accredited public and private training institutions in the country."

The training is expected to improve skills development in the Albertine Region so as to increase employability primarily for the oil and gas industry and to also benefit the wider economy in the region.

The Albertine Region covers 13 districts, including Nebbi, Nwoya, Buliisa, Masindi, Kiryandongo, Hoima, Kibaale, Bunyangabu, Kakumiro, Kagadi, Kyenjojo, Kabarole, and Ntoroko to support Uganda's oil and gas industry.
 
The Bursary Scheme is being implemented through the Albertine Region Sustainable Development Project (ARSDP); a five year $145m (sh536bn) multi-sectoral formulated by the Government of Uganda in 2014, and funded by the World Bank.
 
The project, intends is to improve regional and local access to infrastructure, markets, services and skills development in the Albertine region.
