KAMPALA - With the 2018 Male Airtel FUFA player awards fast approaching,  Vianney Sekajugo will be the favorite candidate for the position.


The Onduparaka striker is vying for the top accolade with Allan Okello (KCCA FC) and Moses Waiswa (Vipers), but his consistency plus winning a number of awards such a MVP FUFA Drum and Pilsner Super 8 among others makes him the strongest case over the other two nominees.


Just like the previous editions, this year’s awards (fourth edition) will be held at Speke Resort Munyonyo on December 7.


Airtel who are the main sponsors of the event have invested sh100m. NIC Holdings Limited who are the other partners for the function also handed sh10m to the organisers.


The awards that are aimed at honoring excellence for Ugandan footballers annually in a bid to raise the level of competition among players.


This year’s awards will be combined with those of the Uganda Premier League which are usually held at the end of every season.


There are 16 categories for the awards with the best Female and Male footballers on the night walking away with a grand prize of a car each.


Crested Cranes skipper Tracy Akiror who also doubles as a Kawempe Muslim player leads the nominees for the best female player with UCU Lady Cardinals’s Ruth Aturo and Shadia Nankya of Uganda Martyrs High School.


KCCA FC's Mustafa Kizza who had the most assists in the league last season (15) is part of the three nominees for the most promising player with Fred Amaku (Kirinya Jinja) and Geoffrey Wasswa (Vipers).


Upcoming talent, coach of the year, Best XI, presidential award, fair play award, individual fair play award, referee of the year, upcoming referee of the year, beach soccer player of the year, fans’ favorite Ugandan player of the year, fan of the year and MVP (Big League) are other awards to be handed out.
