XFM street bash: DJ Ali Breezy is a dare devil

DJ Ali Breezy started his professional career at the now defunct Hi-Table that was situated in the heart of Kampala city.

This Saturday, at the first ever XFM  street bash, Vision Group's DJ  Ali Breezy will be bringing the dare devil in him at the fan party.

"Ugandans like dancehall, reggae, Afro beat, which am going to give them in plenty," he promised. Ali Ssejjamba best known as DJ Ali Breezy started off as DJ Ali but later realised that many people would easily call themselves DJ Ali.

"I had to change to DJ Breeze because I love that cool morning breeze, but it was hard for many people around me to pronounce breeze instead they would call me breezy, I decided to go with what they could manage," he says.

"I did a google search on DJ Ali Breezy and there was no DJ with that name in the entire world so I stuck with the name," he adds.

DJ Ali Breezy was exposed to music, and production at an early age.  His elder brother owned a music and production studio. DJ Ali Breezy now 24 often went over to help out.

"I used to work in his library and I would make raggetone remixes. I wanted to be a producer create my own beats and produce music. It never crossed my mind that I would one day be a DJ," he says.

DJ Ali Breezy refused to pursue a university degree, and branched off into music. "One day I followed a group of mobile DJs I knew and they asked to do a mix at their gig. I did and it was massive," he reveals.

It is from this exposure that he eventually picked up the passion to go into deejaying. There has been no stopping for DJ Ali Breezy ever since.

He was in his S6 vacation when he went out to the bar to help his DJ buddies. The owner of the bar heard me play and encouraged to stay. I was to always start the entertaining from 6-10pm before the more senior DJs take over. Monday was the booming night and that's when I would play.

Since he started out as a DJ, in 2011, DJ Ali Breezy has never looked back. He went from one DJ gig, at now closed down Hi-Table Bar, to include several others around the city, at different bars and night clubs.

He also landed himself a radio gig at Vision Group's XFM in 2014 and has equally fallen in love with radio. He presents a daily mix on XFM from 7-8pm Monday to Friday.

Together with Mr. Skillz they also bring you the Saturday mix on XFM from 7pm to midnight and on Sunday still on XFM DJ Ali Breezy brings to you the old skool mix.

He also bring's you the early morning mix on Vision groups vernacular radio Bukedde FM. DJ Ali Breezy is also the official DJ for Bell Jams, he was the official DJ for Baboon Forest plus Radio and Weasel at a young age. He has been nominated for awards since 2016 but is yet to win "I know that win will come," he says.

Though he has grown so fast in the DJ Industry, there are challenges too for him. "The problem is that when people see me they expect a big man, my small structure is not so helpful," he says humorously. But that has not stopped his growth, he still wants to ventures into music production and farming which he has a passion for by next year. "I want to become a millionaire when am quite young continue to take care of my mother, family and my needs," he says

On October 20, 2018 DJ Ali Breezy has promised to kill it for the fans with the best mixes served on the streets of Kampala.
