PRESS STATEMENT BY THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH IN SUPPORT OF THE INFECTIOUS DISEASES INSTITUTE

The management of the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) has raised a concern to the Ministry of Health about unscrupulous individuals intending to discredit the work  of IDI in the field of HIV and AIDS programming. This is occurring in a context where IDI management recently instituted a criminal investigation CRB - 323/2018 against two former employees.

The Ministry of Health is therefore issuing this statement in acknowledgement of the work and contribution of IDI.

The IDI is a Ugandan not-for-profit organization, established within and wholly owned by Makerere University, whose Mission is to strengthen health systems in Africa, with a strong emphasis on infectious diseases, through research and capacity development.

IDI is a reputable legal entity, established since 2002. The Institute is a lead implementing partner for the Ministry of Health in the field of comprehensive HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases in the following regions - Kampala, Wakiso, the Midwest and the West Nile region. Within the program, IDI provides HIV testing and counseling services, ART and preventative services.
