Capuchins Superior calls for holistic education

The Superior of the Capuchin Missionaries in Uganda, the Very Rev. Fr Godwin Ogam wants teachers and education managers to deliver "integral education," which caters for all human aspects.

"Education is not a matter of staying in class and doing exams.  It is not all about finishing exams and looking for jobs. Relevant education is about practising the values that you were taught. The education you get should be seen in the way you do things and also deal with others," Ogam said.

He was delivering his homily during the thanksgiving mass for the Patron Saint's Day of Saint Padre Pio Schools, Busunju, in Mityana District on Saturday (October 6).

Ogam asked parents and teachers to work even harder to ensure that students get quality education, which will help the students to develop physically, intellectually and morally and subsequently become useful members of the Church, the state and the global community.

The Director of the schools, Fr Leo Lobo (Capuchin Friar) called for more cooperation between the management and the other stakeholders to ensure that the students are equipped with the relevant skills and knowledge that they require for self-reliance.

During the same function, the affiliate magazine of the schools, The Comet, was launched by Counsel Richard Lumu. The magazine contains inspiring articles on education, religion, morality, social and environmental issues written by students and teachers of the respective schools (St Padre Pio Nursery, Primary and Secondary Schools).

The function was also graced by the CEO of Vision Group, Robert Kabushenga. Fr Lobo thanked Kabushenga for his dynamic involvement and support of pro-people causes like the Rotary Cancer Run and the Papal visit in 2015. He also thanked him for being a friend of St Padre Pio Schools.
