Ex-Express FC boss trailed by suspicious looking men

Police are investigating claims that former Express Club chairman and also a Mengo official Hajji Hassan Bulwadda was trailed by unknown men who were riding two motorcycles while on his way home on Friday.

The officer in charge of Kungu Police Station George William Aguma told the New Vision he responded immediately when a call was made to him by Bulwadda on Friday shortly after he had fled from men who were trailing him together with his wife.

"We rushed to the scene and interviewed four eyewitnesses including the guard at Bulwada's gate who all claimed they saw two motorcycles pursuing Bulwada's vehicle and made a u turn after he packed and fled into a farm next to his home. There was an attempt by one of the riders to overtake him and yet nobody stays after his house on that same stretch," Aguma said. He also said they had opened up a file SD Ref: 05/02/2018 and investigations were ongoing.

In an interview with New Vision, Bulwadda said he noted two suspicious motorcycles carrying two men, each trailing him from Kyanja trading center.

"They had full lights on, but I kept on monitoring them using my side mirrors and they kept on making the same turns and following the same route I was on. When I made a turning to my house one of them attempted to overtake me and yet my house is the last on that same stretch. I then made an alarm and pressed on the car horn to alert my guard at the gate and neighbours and increased the speed, but because I knew he would delay to open the gate, I drove past my gate into a nearby farm, jumped out of the car and left my wife in the passenger seat," Bulwadda said.

Some of the workers at the nearby farm who have since recorded statement with Police said they saw the two motorcycles carrying men who were wearing helmets make a u turn and ride back towards the Kyanja-Kungu road.

However, it has not yet been established why the motorcycles had trailed Bulwada who kept insisting he had wronged no one. Bulwadda replaced State Minister for Youths Nakiwala Kiyingi as the Express football chairman and helped save the club from relegation. He was replaced by Kampala city lawyers Kiryowa Kiwanuka.  It was not yet clear whether police had offered him security following the scare although he told New Vision he no longer stays out until late.

The country has witnessed a series of brutal murders targeting Muslim clerics, Judicial officers and Security personnel with the latest being former Buyende District Police Commander Muhammad Kirumira who was gunned down last month in Bulenga together with a female colleague.

Last week, Police issued assassination warning alerts to ministers and other very important persons in the country urging them to be extra cautious.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer Emillian Kayiima, the Police said they had gathered intelligence that some criminal elements within and outside the country wanted to commit heinous crimes against members of the public especially VIPs like members of Parliament, ministers and security personnel during 9th October when Uganda celebrates her independence.
