UK Minister for Africa arrives for state visit

While in Uganda, Harriett Baldwin will meet the President, the Prime Minister, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs
UK Minister for Africa Harriett Baldwin has arrived in the country on a two day state visit. This is Baldwin's first visit to Uganda since her appointment.
On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, Baldwin took to social media to describe Uganda as the Pearl of Africa and said she was looking forward to a packed programme.
A statement by the British High Commission indicated that Baldwin was in the country to better understand the challenges and opportunities it faces.
"I am delighted to be in Uganda, and for the opportunity to meet President Museveni. The UK and Uganda have historic ties and are united as members of the Commonwealth family. As Minister for Africa, I look forward to strengthening this relationship further," Baldwin said on arrival.
"Over the next two days I'm eager to hear more about how the UK and Uganda can collaborate on challenges such as economic development and regional security, and I look forward to welcoming President Museveni to London next week for the Illegal Wildlife Trade conference which will bring together global leaders to end wildlife crime," she added.

While in Uganda, Baldwin will meet the President, the Prime Minister, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
"She will also see some of the important development work supported by the UK, including visiting an urban refugee verification site at the Old Kampala Senior Secondary School. The Minister will see how the UK is increasing its work on reaching the most marginalised, for example, through the UK's Girls' Education Challenge, ensuring more girls stay in education and learn," the statement reads.
She is also set to visit the Uganda Virus Research Institute and learn more about the 30 year collaboration between the UK and Uganda on HIV research and discuss ongoing Ebola preparedness work which the Department for International Development is supporting.
This is in addition to visiting UK supported work to improve livelihoods and productive opportunities through solar technology.
