Police is investigating an explosion in which two pupils were injured at Mother Care Bright Primary School in Maganjo, Nabweru sub county, Wakiso district.

The explosion that occurred in the primary seven classroom on Thursday morning, left Ashraf Igembe and Ronitah Namakula, both aged 13, injured.

“The two pupils were rushed to Mulago Hospital for treatment. The boy’s (Igembe) hand was shattered as a result of the explosion while the girl’s (Namakula) eye was slightly injured,” said Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire.

According to Owoyesigyire, the pupils were playing with an unidentified item before it exploded and injured them.

He said the item is yet to be identified by a team of experts from  Police’s bomb squad, which rushed to the scene and collected fragments.

“We have also established that the unidentified object was brought into the school by one of the pupils identified as Abdul Kakooza, 12, who is said to have picked it yesterday (Wednesday) on his way home but carried it to school today,” Owoyesigyire explained.

He said more details would be availed after the bomb experts have finished analysing the recovered fragments to establish what exactly it was.
