A vibrant Karamoja Cultural Festival in pictures

The fifth annual Karamoja Cultural Festival took place from August 28 until September 1 in Kaabong district.

The event was held under the theme: 'With unity and peace, we cherish our culture for the development of Karamoja'.

Several politicians and cultural leaders attended the event.

One of them was the Minister for presidency, Esther Mbayo, who was pictured receiving a traditional food dish from Karimojong women.

 

 

 

 The event was punctuated with colourful performances.

 

 

 

The Karamoja Cultural Association 2018 Kaabong Chapter organised the event, in collaboration with Karamoja Cultural Association and Kaabong District Local Government.

It was not just a Ugandan affair. It hosted by the Ateker group, which comprise Karimojong (Uganda), Turkana (Kenya), Toposa (South Sudan) and Nyangatom (Ethiopia).

 

 

 

Among the high profile people in attendance was Minister of state for ethics and integrity Fr. Simon Lokodo, who wore traditional attire. He followed the proceedings next to minister Mbayo.

 

 

 

The event attracted delegates from East African pastoralist communities: Karamojong, Teso, Langi (Uganda), Turkana, Samburus (Kenya), Nyangatom, Borana (Ethiopia), Masai (Kenya, Tanzania) and Toposa (South Sudan).

 

 

 

Everywhere you turned, your eyes met with the beauty of culture all over -- from men to women and to children.

 

 

 

There were several musical performances.
